If you have a small Windows laptop, you may be experiencing issues with Explore, such as the content stream or analytics not displaying.

This article will cover:

Background

The Meltwater app is designed to work on most laptop and desktop screens.

We design all of our pages to display at a target resolution of 1280 pixels wide, which should cover the overwhelming percentage of users. Our pages are also designed to respond to smaller displays as well as much larger ones. Designing pages for these varying situations is known as responsive design.

Despite our best efforts, we have discovered that some smaller or lower-end Windows laptops are creating an unforeseen issue. Although the laptop displays are big enough to display our pages as we have designed them, they have a factory setting that zooms the display to 150% of normal. This effectively turns 1280 pixels into 850 pixels, which is smaller than we designed for. However, our diagnostic tools still show these displays as being 1280 pixels.

This effect for some is that the page responds as if the display is 850 pixels, removing part of the page from view. In Explore, this means that some are not seeing the stream of results or mentions even though this is the most essential part of the page.

What Meltwater Is Doing About It

The most critical issue has already been fixed. If you are experiencing the above issue (1280 px. screens zoomed to 150%), you should now always see the full Explore results page, including the mentions stream. This is the case at even smaller screen widths. The navigation panel may overlay part of the screen on very small screens. This can be closed by clicking the Close navigation button at the bottom of the navigation panel.

We are working on an improvement where the navigation panel will also collapse to an icon-only view at these widths.

What You Should Expect To See

Below are the views you should expect to see depending on the width of your browser window:

Note: This is how the Explore App should change its layout depending on the size of your laptop screen or browser window.

Controlling What You See

Besides the page layouts we’ve created, there are ways you can control what you see in Explore.

Note: The Explore App with the View menu on the right and the Pin/Close Navigation control at the bottom.

Explore’s View Menu

Explore has a View button on the right margin of the page. Clicking this menu allows you to choose between an analytics view, a content view, or both.

Close Your Navigation

The navigation panel on the left side of the page can be pinned open or collapsed into an icon-only view. The icon-only view frees up more space on the page for content, while the pinned view lets you see the names of our tabs.
