There are two types of Explore searches: Keyword and Advanced.

Keyword - Enter terms in our input boxes, and our system will create a search for you. This option is recommended for simple searches or for those new to the platform.

Advanced - Create a Boolean query using AND, OR, NOT, and other operators for more precise search results (see our complete list of Boolean operators). This is best for advanced users familiar with Boolean syntax.

Keyword searches can be converted into Advanced searches. These conversions may occur when you want to view your search in a written format or when you have a large number of edits to make.

Before you convert a Keyword search into an Advanced search, you must first create a Keyword search. Learn more about Creating a Keyword Search.

To convert a Keyword search into an Advanced search, follow the below steps:

  1. Click Explore on the left-hand navigation bar

  2. Select the keyword search you want to convert into an advanced search. This will be labeled under Type to the right of the search’s name

  3. Select Actions in the top right-hand corner

  4. Click Convert to advanced search

  5. Select Save

Your new advanced search will now be written in Boolean instead of the three input boxes.

Note: The results of your search will not change. This is only a different way to look at a search you previously created.
