Learn more about using Spike Detection & Analysis to help you identify statistically relevant events across news and social.

Spike Detection & Analysis Overview

Spike Detection and Analysis is an AI-powered insights feature on the Mentions Trend Widget in Explore.

Identifying statistically relevant shifts in news and social media conversation, with summary explanations and insight drill-ins to view mentions and additional spike analytics.

We’ve also updated our Spike Alerts with the new contextual analytics across email, in-app, and Slack. Spike Alerts include AI-powered summary explanations that identify statistically relevant shifts in news and social media conversation, with added context via plain language summary explanations that include both the cause and reason for a spike.

Using Spike Detection and Analysis

  1. Click Explore in the left-hand navigation bar

  2. Select an existing saved search or create a new search

  3. Navigate to the Mentions Trend widget

  4. There you will find lightbulb icons over the spikes to perform spike detection and analysis

Note: Spike detection will run and highlight any statistically significant spikes in the trend graph indicated by a lightbulb. This analysis is powered by the same technology that drives the Spike Detection Smart Alerts. If you do not see a lightbulb, there was no statistically significant spike detected.

  5. Click on any lightbulb to launch the first Spike Analysis window. This view will share the following insights:

    • Total mentions and date

    • Mentions spike total and average

    • Top Source Types

    • Top Terms

    • Top Location

    • Content that had the highest reach for spike

  6. For deeper analytics, click View more insights. This will open a slide-out on the right-hand side of your screen featuring Mentions and Analytics

The Mentions Tab features a content stream that offers all the same functionality of the mainstream on the page, including AI tags, search, and download options.

The Analytics Tab features four widgets filtered to the day of the spike, including mentions trend by hour, top locations, top keywords, and sentiment.

The analytics widgets behave the same as they do on the Overview tab in Explore.

Note: We’ve also updated our Spike Alerts with the new contextual analytics across email, in-app, and Slack.
