Broadcast Media Integration is an add-on feature that allows you to step forward into working with traditional media through a third type of search: Broadcast.
These searches pull in radio and television clips. When opening the clip, you can view or listen to the original content, read the transcript, see information about the program, and more!
Currently, Broadcast Media is available for those with the Broadcast Media Add-On in Meltwater. Speak to your Sales team representative to find out more about access to Broadcast Media.
Broadcast media is available for specific regions based on your contract.
Building a Broadcast-Specific Search
Building a broadcast search is a lot like building a social or editorial search with a few additional details to keep in mind.
To build a broadcast-specific search, follow the below steps:
Click Explore in the left-hand navigation bar
Click Create under Advanced search
Add your search string
Select Source type in the Filter navigation bar
Click Broadcast
Select Search
Click Save
Variations of Keywords
TV and Radio hits pull in using closed captioning. Therefore, we want to be mindful of variations in how keywords can be captured. For instance, say you are a sports team looking to monitor when your team wins - your keyword for “won” can also be pulled in as “one,” so we will want to add both variations in our search string.
Excluding Keywords
After your initial Broadcast search, you may find some clips that need to be more relevant to what you want to monitor. We can exclude specific keywords or phrases by using the NOT operator.
Searching for a Specific Clip
If you have a specific broadcast clip in mind, create a refined search using the details you have for the clip.
Potential Keywords
For example, if the clip is of an interview with a university professor, we'd recommend searching for keywords such as the university's name, professor's name, terms relating to the person's title 'Professor,' terms about the topic being discussed, and terms relating to their area of study.
