Bluesky is a decentralized social network quickly gaining popularity as an alternative to X (formerly Twitter). Designed to give users more control over their data and online experience, Bluesky is attracting a diverse audience, including journalists, policymakers, and tech thought leaders.

Data Available

The API provides data on all public posts, likes, reposts, and follows, along with timestamps and associated metadata. Additionally, you can view user handles & locations by clicking Open in a new tab to view profiles in Bluesky and expand details by clicking on the Content analysis card.

There are two ways to filter your Explore results to view Bluesky content - via the Source type or Boolean.

Source Type

  1. Click Explore in the left-hand navigation bar

  2. Open an existing search

  3. Click the Source Type drop-down

  4. Select the checkbox next to Bluesky

  5. Click Search

  6. View anonymized Bluesky posts with text, images (if available), and metadata.

Boolean

  1. Click Explore in the left-hand navigation bar

  2. Open an existing search

  3. To your existing search, type “AND sourceid:"social:bluesky” into the search bar at the top of your screen.

    Note: You can also narrow your search by adding the creator’s handle in the search. Example: handle:”authorname".

  4. Click Search

  5. View anonymized Bluesky posts with text, images (if available), and metadata.

    Note: Once your search has been saved, Bluesky data can power other elements of the Meltwater app beyond Explore, such as Monitor (shown below), Newsletters, and Alerts.
